A Call to Protect Our Water and Oceans

At the heart of this Advocacy Project is a shared commitment to preserving the Earth’s most vital resources, its water and oceans. This page highlights events and initiatives designed to bring people together to collaborate, educate, and raise awareness about environmental issues that impact us all.

One such initiative is World Water Week 2025, a powerful global platform where individuals, organisations, and governments come together to address the critical challenges surrounding water. This global week-long event brings attention to water issues such as conservation, quality, access, and sustainability, emphasising the importance of preserving this life-sustaining resource. World Water Day 2025, which falls on 22 March, serves as a reminder of the urgent need to protect our planet's water sources for current and future generations.

As part of my ongoing commitment to advocacy and environmental education, I was honoured to have been invited and be part of Operation Sea Change, an inspiring event hosted by the Johannesburg Zoo with Oceans Alive Conservation Trust and Paramount Nickelodeon. This event brought together numerous organisations with a shared mission: to inform and engage children and communities about the importance of water and its preservation.

On this special day, children participated in various hands-on activities and learning sessions that focused on a variety of critical water-related issues. Topics ranged from water pollution and the importance of water testing, to drown prevention and water safety. Attendees learned about lifesaving techniques, the devastating impact of plastic pollution on our oceans, and the urgent need to clean up our rivers to protect aquatic ecosystems and the ocean. Children also gained insight into how maintaining a clean environment is essential to ensuring the sustainability of water resources, which are vital for the health of all life on Earth, especially biodiversity.

For World Water Week 2025, the theme of the day was centered around the importance of protecting our rivers, keeping our water clean, and preventing pollution. The children who attended were especially excited to see SpongeBob SquarePants, who helped bring the message to life in a fun and engaging way. The event highlighted the need for all of us to take responsibility in preserving our planet's most valuable resource, water, and to work together to ensure that our rivers and oceans remain clean and healthy for generations to come.

Through initiatives like Operation Sea Change, we aim to instil a sense of responsibility and care for water in the next generation. Water is the foundation of life, and its preservation is not just an environmental concern but a moral imperative for the future of our planet.
